Welcome to Winter Wonderland and Christmas!!

Winter in Michigan can get very cold! (no kidding!)  J  Our automobile license plates used to say "Winter Wonderland".  I don't much care for  winter  January through March  mainly because it looks so drab outside during those months and I can't work in my garden.

I love it from November to  the end of the year because of Christmas...the lights, the decorations, the stores all dressed up in holiday garlands and ornaments, the merriment of people shopping,  family and the true spirit of Christmas.

Below is a post card from a little shopping village called Canterbury near Novi, Michigan where it is Christmas year round. The entire shop is three stories high filled to the brim with every type of ornament, lights, nativity scenes and anything that you could ever dream of. It looks like a beautiful fairyland with all of its glittering lights.  Truly a site to behold.  We also have Bronners in Frankenmuth that perhaps some of you have heard of.  Bronners is the biggest Christmas store anywhere in Michigan. Canterbury is rather new in comparison but it is quickly catching up.  I can't decide which place I like better - each one holds its own special charm.  Frankenmuth is a little Bavarian town known for Bronners and the chicken dinners at the Bavarian Inn.  All of the stores and buildings are built with such detail that it is just fun to walk around and look at the structures. They sell the most beautiful clocks in a few of the shops - many of them German Coo-coo clocks. They have items from all over the world.  Frankenmuth is quite a tourist town. Another cute place to visit in our area is Crossroads Village. This village is a replica that was built to show how people lived many years ago. It is open to the public year round and has a Passenger Train you can ride and a Carousel and a Riverboat you can ride.  They have many events during the year and my favorite has always been during Halloween where you dress up in costume and go trick or treating to all the various stores, shops and houses.

We made a gingerbread house one year when I was a kid.  If you would like to make one of your own, just go to any craft store in your area. It is something the entire family can get involved with.  You can usually eat the house if you put it together with edible glue but would you really want to? Good enough to eat but too pretty!

Another fun thing to do (and this is for the birds - literally!) is to take a large pinecone, attach a ribbon or piece of yarn on it for hanging.  Then spread peanut butter all over it and then roll it in wild bird seed.  Take the pinecone and hang it outdoors to feed the birds. Hang it close enough to your house so you can watch the birds enjoy. Dusty enjoys watching the birds at the pinecone feeders too. He also likes watching us unwrap presents so he can play with the wrapping paper and bows.

IIf you would like a quilt square, please take any or all of these below. They are 130 x 130. Don't forget to link them back to my homepage.
